In this Unboxening, Arcade Castle takes an initial look at what is probably a bootleg/unlicensed board game based off the 1986 Taito arcade hit Bubble Bobble from South Korea.
"Grandpa, tell me about the console wars." "Ah, yes sonny, that was many years ago, when ghosts were in hi-c and pepsi was clear..." "Tell me sonny...what year is it?" "2016." For those of us who grew up in the early 1990s, this was our war. Yes, we had the post-apocalyptic world of Crossfire to look forward to and our attention would later turn to digipets and arguing over which Pokemon version was best, Red, Blue, or Yellow. (Wait...are we sure it isn't the 1990s?) But, until those days arrived, we had the ultimate console war. Sega Genesis vs. Nintendo. You were in one camp or another. You discussed and debated the virtues of zelda, toejam and earl, vectorman, donkey kong, golden axe, and more as you used games, gameplay, graphics, sound, and speed to make your case. At the end of July, Fantasy Flight Games announced that they would be revisiting an old license and gave the world the first peek at components from DOOM. Now, in 2016, we have a new Doom game and, in turn, a new Doom board game, both of which are reboots of the 2004 Doom. Additionally, the components and demons in the Doom Board Game (2016) are based off of Doom (...

Based off of the seminal Super Nintendo game that boasted Mode 7 graphics & wowed gamers in 1990, the F-Zero Knight League Real Racing Simulation Game does its best to capture the look and feel of F-Zero in a board game! In the F-Zero Knight League Real Racing Simulation Game (hereafter FZKLRRSG), players race one another throughout the five courses of the Knight League, attempting to win as many races as they can to score the most points to win the game! Players have a 'hand' of cards to manage their speed and health as they navigate the hazards of each track in the Knight League. Players can push their luck to try and get in first place, but if they are not careful, they may find themselves a fiery wreck on the racetrack. In Episode 14 of The Arcade Castle Podcast, John and Pa...
